Euchre Tournament
Rules
The partnership variation consists of 10 rounds of 8
hands each, for a total of 80 hands. At the end of each round, the
"Stationary" Team at a given table (designated by the Spades suit) stays
put, and the other Team (designated by the Clubs suit) moves to the next
highest numbered table. To determine the first deal of the game, cards
will be dealt face up until a player receives any Jack. That player then
becomes the dealer; from there, the deal rotates clockwise each hand.
Cards must be properly shuffled. The deck is then offered for a "cut" to
the player seated to the right of the dealer. Cards may be dealt one at a
time, or by the traditional 2's and 3's. The bottom card may not be
examined before the shuffle or deal. If the bottom card or any card
has been seen by any players (speak up!), the hand must be redealt by the
same dealer.
Bidding commences with the Eldest hand (left of the dealer), after the
upcard is turned. If four passes occur, a second round of bidding
commences. "Stick the Dealer" does not apply, and a redeal will then
occur. A player may pass, order, or pick it up with any holding (a natural
trump is not required). The dealer's partner may assist (order to his/her
partner ), and not be required to go alone. "Defensive loners" are not
applicable. One player from each team will keep score. A "zero" is
recorded as an "X" in the appropriate box (hand). The score for the number
"1" is written as "one", and "2" is written as "two". A loner is recorded
as the number "4" only. The Host must be called to stamp the score sheet
of the person (singles) or team (partners) making the loner. An official
score sheet will be supplied to each player. At the end of each
incremental Round (hands #1-4; 5-8; and 9-10), the score sheets must be
initialed by the opponents in order to verify actual scores. At the end of
Rounds #4, #8, and #10 the score sheets are returned to the official's
table.
The Individuals' event ("Round Robin") is also formatted in a 10 x 8
structure with ten rounds of eight hands each. There is one Stationary
person at each table, and the other three players at the table will move
to their next round in a clearly defined manner (up one table, up two
tables, or down one table). After the final round is over, the deck of
cards and the games (#9/10) score sheets (properly signed by all players)
are returned to the host table.
Irregularities and Penalties
The host must be called in the event of a possible Rules violation.
Do not irritate the situation! Any disturbance of other tables and
players will not be tolerated. Let the Host handle any questions or
concerns.
Revoke (nee "Renege"): Failure to follow suit when possible
constitutes a revoke. A card exposed or laid is a card played. The
non-offending team will receive 2 points, unless the revoke occurred
during a loner, in which case a 4 point score is awarded.
Bid Out Of Turn: The premature bid is cancelled, and the bid
reverts to the proper position. The offending team has 2 points deducted
from their score.
Lead Out Of Turn: The lead reverts to the proper seat and the
incorrectly played card becomes a penalty card and must be played at the
first legal opportunity. In addition, the offending team will have 2
points deducted from their score
Prematurely Exposed Card: The exposed card remains on the table
as a penalty card. The offending team has 2 points deducted from their
score. Subsequent exposed cards by the same player will result in
additional point deductions.
Each Round will begin every thirty minutes, on the hour and half-hour.
Players will be allowed a two minute grace period. Two points will be
deducted from the score of any player who is more than two minutes late
for the start of a round.
Any player caught cheating will be disqualified from the Tourney. Taunting, trash-talking
and any form of fighting will not be permitted. The host has the final say on any
rulings. The tournament director will be called if a disqualification
decision is necessary. Good Luck!
Only registered players will be allowed in the
tournament room. No watchers will be allowed. This is a
non-smoking room! (Usually you will have time between rounds to run
outdoors and smoke)
Copies of these rules will be available at the
tournament! |
