What is a Ladder Game?

A ladder is an ongoing method of ranking players who are competing in a game. It is called a ladder because it operates on the principle of rank or rungs. Your ranking/rung on the ladder indicates how good you are as compared to the other players. When you sign up you start at the bottom of the ladder. Your goal is to climb the ladder to the #1 spot.

Up, up and away!

When you beat someone you move up half the distance between their rank and yours. So if you were at the #100 rank and beat the #1 player, you move to #50. All players ranked 50-99 slide down one rung to make room for you.

Down we go.

What happens if you lose? Your rank remains the same. You lose rungs on the Ladder when other players jump ahead of you, forcing you down. The only exception comes when you lose to the person directly beneath you. In this case you switch spots.

How To play LADDER GAMES

- 2 players compete by sitting against each other.  Each opponent uses a computer as a partner.  Your games must be played ONLY in Orange Roughy.  Keep reading...

1.  You can only play ladder games against other members of the Euchre Freaks league.

-You must be logged in at pogo.com under the same screenname as your league account (ladder name).

-Find other players by asking in the Orange Roughy lobby  "Would anyone like a ladder game?", or just set a table and announce in the lobby "Ladder game on table 50".

If you need to change your laddername so that it matches your Pogo name, go HERE.  You may change your laddername only once every 7 days.  If you goof, let me know  so I can fix it for you.  You will need to know the exact spelling of your opponents laddername so that you can report the loss at the league site, so make sure you ask them what it is before they leave the table.  You can also just enter the first 2 or 3 characters of their name and the league sites' computer will do a search for all names starting with those characters.

I know all this looks overwhelming at first, but as you play more with us you will get to know all of the players and rules by heart.  We have a lot of fun and will be here to help you so you can have fun too!!

2.  How to set up a table for a ladder game.

-Set the table as a private table.  Use the password "freaks".  See the table settings below.

3.  How to report a loss.

-Once the game has finished and a winner is determined, the LOSER is responsible for reporting the loss.  The loser can go to http://www.myleague.com/freaks and click on "report loss" on the left side of the main page.  You will be asked to log in with your ladder name and password.  After you log in, you will see a box listing your ladder name.  Where it says "opponent #1", fill in the winners ladder name.  If you receive an error, you probably misspelled the opponents name (just enter the first couple of letters of their name and click on the search result that you are looking for).  If you have problems and cannot report the loss, please click the support link on the myleague main page.

5.  How to check your rankings on the Cases ladder (and make sure the win was actually reported by the loser).

Click on "standings" on the left hand side of the page.  Look under "View Ranks".  Click on the dropdown list arrow and choose "all active players" to see a list of all players that have won at least one ladder game, (and to find your own name listed since you won a match).  Usually you don't have to worry about an opponent lying to you about their membership in the league, so you may want to just play the game instead of making them wait for you to check on their membership status.  Besides, even if they did lie and you played a game, what's the harm?

To check the ladder reports to assure your win was reported by the loser, go to the main page of the league, click on 'Daily Results', then click on 'today's Results'.

If you lose the game, you are responsible for reporting that lossONLY THE LOSER OF THE MATCH REPORTS THE LOSSIf you have trouble reporting the loss for any reason, ask your opponent or someone in the lobby for help. If that fails, please use the support link at the myleague homepage.

How To Join A Tournament

Our Tournament schedule changes every day.  You can check out the tournaments each day by scrolling down to the bottom of the main league page or by clicking on 'Tournament Calendar', found on the left menu.  Tournaments are added throughout the day so check the calendar often!  To join a tournament, simply click on the tournament you wish to join and 'Register' for that tournament.  Then load your Pogo/ladder name into Orange Roughy several minutes prior to the start time and pay attention to the 'Host' or 'Tournament Director'.  They will announce the start of the tourney and tell everyone what table to play at.  Let them know if you are new to the league and they will be glad to help you!

Some of the tournaments are 'free' to join and others will require 'ladderbux'.  When you signed up for the league, you were given the option of signing up for free offers to earn bux.  If you didn't get those free bux, just ask the Tournament Director if they can give you some.  These ladderbux aren't real money, they are 'playmoney' that allow you to enter tourneys.  When your account runs low, a staff member or any 'premium' member can 'gift' you more bux!  Just ask us!  (We normally make sure everyone has at least 100 ladderbux at all times, but if we forget to replenish your account just remind us!)  In tourneys that require ladderbux, the top winners will split the pot.

Find out more about all of this by clicking on 'How to Play' and Rules  found at our league site, www.myleague.com/freaks

This page was placed here as a quick reference for new players, it does not cover all of the important rules that a member of our league must adhere to.

You are responsible for any rule violations reported against you so please read the full set of rules and play responsibly.

Many league members are in the lobby to help you if you have any questions.  Just ask them!  Enjoy your ladder experience!

We play in the "Orange Roughy" room at www.pogo.com.   Use the backdoor for faster and easier access.

Add me to your messengers if you need any kind of computer help or questions regarding the league!  I would enjoy meeting you!
